Please be advised, changes were made today which took effect at approximately 2pm on the Firewall-Router which connects (and protects) POLAN to/from the outside (internet) world-at-large.
In particular,
- Inbound FTP was blocked globally. Previously this was open globally. With the easy availability of SSH / SFTP, I believe FTP is obselete and redundant - hence this change.
- A number of old firewall rules were disabled, dating back a number of years and mostly for systems now out of service. IF however you find something unexpectly has stopped working for inbound access please let me know.
- Inbound RDP ("Remote Desktop Protocol") was enabled for Dal_VPN clients into POLAN. Thus, if you have a Windows XP Professional Desktop, you can now access your Windows Desktop / Workspace remotely. The access would be best described as follows:
- Be sure you know your machines IP address here in POLAN
- Fire up the Dal VPN Client software on your PC @ Home (or wherever ..)
- Start up the "remote desktop" software in windows, and provide the target machine IP you want to connect to
- wait patiently, in theory it will work
