MATLAB licenses for POLAN users are provided from (a group of three fault-tolerant) license servers, which provide a fixed number of concurrent sessions at one time. In order to ensure licenses are used efficiently, then optional "Idle Session Timeout" feature has just been enabled on our License Server.

The direct consequence of this:

Any MatLab session which is left open, but IDLE, for 4 hours -- will automatically revoke licenses to the license servers. This frees up licenses to be used by other (active) users. When your session is used again, it will check out a free license (if one is available) from the license servers, and you may resume work normally.

This feature is being implemented because we appear to currently have a significant number of matlab users who are not quitting the application once they are finished work. This has resulted in shortages of available licenses.

If any problems appear to arise based on this new feature, please let Tim Chipman know promptly.
