SHACKLE, the backup server, suffered a failure in one of two "backup loader units" in the past few days, which resulted in a temporary disruption to nightly backups of some data pools. (Anchor user homedirs and mail server)

New tapes were swapped into the remaining (working) "backup loader unit" and things are online again for the rest of the week.

TDC is also taking measures to attempt to configure and deploy some replacement hardware we have on hand, which will effectively replace the failed backup-loader unit, and possibly increase our capacity of backup data as well.

Further information will be posted when appropriate.

UPDATE -- Tuesday, Aug. 7th: The backup server has been operating smoothly over the long weekend. While some configuration issues remain outstanding, operations are now back to normal and should remain so until further notice.
