There is a scheduled power outage this Tuesday, March 22nd from 6:00 - 6:30am. Please shut down your computers and UPS units at the end of the day on Monday.
Those running a UPS may try to ride out the shutdown, but will probably run out of battery. Shutting down is still the recommended method to reduce risk to the equipment.
I will try to run:
- anchor
- thinclient
- mail (including webmail)
- hydra (webservers including passage & seahorse)
- standard network (note access to campus and Internet will likely be interrupted)
Other systems that might be included:
- dqone-four -- I believe these are on separate UPS units, so let's see if they last 30 minutes... don't hold your breath...
- jade -- to try to keep the matlab license server running. But it will be the first to go if the runtime is not sufficient.
Systems that won't be running:
- gigabit network likely will be off
- kt-4800
- goapp.ocean
- romg1/2 shares
- printing
- swell & lounge wireless (awing has a UPS)
- anything/everything else
If you are foolishly running some process during the outage, and it seems to hang or block, don't interrupt it. It's probably waiting on a network outage. If you last until the power returns, when the network comes back your process should continue. Now is a good time to save your work.
If there are any remaining problems after the outage, please let me know.
