OUTSTANDING ISSUES as of Monday, May 12th, 7pm

  • Matlab license server UPDATE

I will be returning the Matlab license server to its original configuration at MIDNIGHT tonight (Monday, May 12th, 2008). This should return everyone to normal.

For those people who have followed my instructions (below) and modified your license file by commented out the extra SERVER lines: you will have to change it back tomorrow morning.

Feel free to email me if you require any clarification.

Sunday, May 11th, 3am

  • costello is down - fixed
  • kt-nas1 and kt-dfflab are down - fixed
  • KT-4800 cannot be started. - fixed

Matlab works on anchor, and should work on jade, dqone-four, blue, and dalcoast, at least the most recent versions. For anyone else, if you can edit your license.dat file, and remove or comment (#) the SERVER jade and SERVER kt-4800 lines, then matlab should work.

I will continue when I can. Check back here for updates.

Complete system shutdown - Friday, May 9th - Saturday May 10th, 2008

Due to electrical work at Dalhousie, the Life Sciences building electricity was shut off over night on Friday, May 9th, 2008. All POLAN equipment was shut down.

I am taking this opportunity to trace many cables in the server room, reorganize the power distribution, and document the network cable configuration. For this reason, recovery is slow.

At present (2pm Saturday May 10th) the following services are restored:

The next priorities are, in order: (updated 6pm May 10th)

  • anchor/printing - done
  • thinclient server - done
  • Jade/PC Cluster - done
  • dalcoast/eero/abbot/costello - done
  • testcluster/rhel-4.5/sable/taggart3 fileserver - done

Please note that I circulated around the 3rd, 4th, and 5th floors last night after the power shutdown, in order to turn off all the poor UPS battery backups in people's offices. If you are unable to turn on your system, check your UPS first!

Please feel free to turn on any systems in your own labs and offices, and let me know if there are any issues. I will be away Monday through Wednesday lunch at the AceNET MPI course, but I will be monitoring my email for any issues.

Thank you for your understanding.
