The new colour laser printer purchased ~last month to replace the failed "Rainbow (RB)" has been deployed. I had been holding out to do a new printer-server queue management setup at the same time, but due to endless time-pressure and too-many-procrastinations, I've deferred this "new printer server setup" for later time.

Thus, the new printer is accessible as a "drop in replacement" for the old "Rainbow" printer. Systems previously configured to use this printer should be able to do so in the same manner as before. Functionally the new printer is no different than the old unit (duplex print jobs, postscript colour laser Xerox Phaser)

As always,

  • Please only print colour print jobs when absolutely necessary. "Rough Drafts" or "oops - 60 page accidents" are not appreciated. This printer is expensive to feed in terms of the cost of supplies. (We were averaging a few thousand pages per month last year, and approximately $5000 annually in consumable supplies)
  • Remember, do not ever open up the printer or poke around inside. Paper jams / other problems are to be resolved by Jackie or Tim, only.

Many thanks,

Tim
