Anchor Maintenance
Anchor has been sluggish in the past few days, especially posing problems for SunRay workstation users. Some work has been "on the back burner" for scheduling for over a month, and with this added incentive, "push comes to shove".
Work done, more or less, includes:
- Shutting down SunRayServer services
- De-configuring and re-configuring SunRayServices such that all SunRay network traffic is partitioned onto a totally separate network interface (supposedly to reduce network traffic burden on the pirmary interface)
- Patching SunRay Server software with "latest" updated available from Sun. (Alas we're running a fairly old version of this software, so the latest patch dates back a few years)
The above work was completed from ~8pm to ~9pm
Subsequently,
- Anchor was put into "single user" state and a large cluster of recommended patches were applied
- Anchor was rebooted into (normal operation) "multi user" state.
Later work which will be attempted relating to SunRay Server work will involve physically partitioning SunRay traffic onto different switch network hardware, to further isolate this traffic from the main POLan. Alas this cannot be done immediately due to limitations of some offices which have a single network drop but multiple platform workstations (ie, SunRay and Standalone)
