Effective Dec-13-07 printing to the shared printers, PO and RB, from windows workstations requires printing via "anchor" as a local print server. This helps provide better tracking of printer usage (ie, who sends what jobs)

To configure the new printer setup for Windows XP please follow the steps outlined below.

For MacOS X users, please read Techfaq.Printing-macosx. Linux users can also use the MacOS X instructions.

IMPORTANT:

This procedure requires that you have a SAMBA account configured on ANCHOR. You will need to 'login' to \\anchor.phys.ocean.dal.ca\ once, every time you login to Windows, before you will be able to print. To do this, click 'Start -> Run' and type \\anchor.phys.ocean.dal.ca\ and click 'OK'. You should get a username/password dialog almost immediately. Once you have typed your anchor username & password correctly, you will see a file browser for anchor. To make this procedure easier next time, drag a shortcut from any directory (I recommend your home directory, named by your username) and store it on the desktop.

Please contact Daniel to set this up if you encounter any problems.

As of June 4th, 2008, printing is possible from any host on the 129.173.104.0/22 network, as well as POLAN (129.173.23.0/24) -- provided you have a windows fileserver account on anchor, of course.
